All positions are available for both Birch State Park and Oleta River Park locations, unless otherwise noted. Please specify which location you are interested in on your application.

AQUATICS 
Description: We are looking for energetic certified lifeguards to plan and supervise the Camp Live Oak aquatics program. All applicants must be certified in First Aid and CPR and are required to demonstrate lifesaving skills prior to employment. Lifeguards will also have a limited budget to acquire equipment. Job duties include but are not limited to the following: inventory maintenance of all equipment and ensure its proper use and storage. Facilitate camper swim tests, ages 5 to 13, and enforce waterfront safety. Lifeguards will also be required to plan meaningful activities for rainy days. He/She is also in charge of overseeing all waterfront activities including canoe activities.  Pay rate: TBD
Requirements:

  • Must hold a Lifeguard Certification from a nationally recognized organization
  • Must be First Aid/CPR trained
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be able to work entire summer camp season: June 14th-Aug 20
  • Hours: 8:30-4:00 M-F

SPORTS COORDINATOR 
Description: We are looking for energetic and well versed individuals in the area of Sports to work with children ages 5 to 13. The sports coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising camper sport activities while encouraging sportsmanship, fairness, and participation and keeping inventory and maintenance of all equipment and ensuring its proper use and storage. He/she will also assist the on-site Director with special camp activities and plan meaningful activities for rainy days. Pay Rate: TBD

Requirements:

  • Must be familiar with sporting activities and be able to implement such programs.
  • Must be a self starter and team player!
  • Must be able to work entire summer camp season: June 14th-Aug 20th

CANOEING/ARCHERY/FISHING SPECIALIST 
Description: We are looking for experienced and energetic individuals in the area of canoeing, kayaking, archery, and fishing to work with children ages 5 to 13 years old. The C/A/F specialist is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising these activities while encouraging participation, team building, and leadership. He/she will also implement safety procedures in all activity areas and ensure that all campers are informed as to how to participate in each activity.  The C/A/F specialist will have a budget to acquire equipment. Additional job duties include but are not limited to the following: inventory and maintenance of all equipment and ensuring its proper use and storage. He/she will also assist the on-site Director with special camp activities and plan meaningful activities for rainy days. Pay Rate: TBD

Since Camp Live Oak is an environmental day camp that promotes respect for the environment and all that live in it, the C/A/F specialist will be responsible for promoting the Leave No Trace principles in these activities to campers

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must have canoeing, archery, and fishing experience as well as knowing how to implement such programs.
  • Previous child care experience or teaching experience recommended.
  • Additional outdoor camping experience a plus++
  • Must be a self starter and team player!
  • Must be able to work entire summer camp season: June 14th-Aug 20th

ARTS AND CRAFTS COORDINATOR 
Description: We are looking for an independent-working, organized, and creative Art/Crafts coordinator to work with children ages 5 to 13. He/she must be able to develop, coordinate, and implement age appropriate projects, with a strong focus on recycled and nature related arts.  There is a budget for materials, and the coordinator will be responsible for maintaining supply inventory and budget invoices. A two week salary will be paid for planning purposes. Birch and Oleta park Arts and Crafts coordinators should work closely together to provide continuity between both locations. An outline of all projects is required prior to the start of camp (June 8). Pay Rate: $13.00 an hour plus a one week planning pay.

NATURE SPECIALIST 
Description: We are looking for an independent-working and organized Nature Specialist to work with children ages 5 to 13. He/she must have prior experience in the area of natural science or botany, and develop, plan, and coordinate all environmental/science activities. The nature specialist will be working closely with our lead science coordinator throughout the summer and should work closely together to provide continuity between both locations. A budget will be given for all science activities and the specialist will be responsible for maintaining supply inventory and budget invoices. Pay Rate: TBD

Since Camp Live Oak is an environmental day camp that promotes respect for the environment and all that live in it, the Nature Specialist will be responsible for promoting the Leave No Trace principles to campers.

The nature specialist will be on rotation with the lead science teacher and will be teaching at both the Birch State Park site in Ft. Lauderdale and Oleta River Site in N. Miami. A gas allowance will be provided. Additional details will be provided during the interview. 

Requirements:

  • Must be a Florida naturalist, school science teacher, or have extensive experience in the field of natural sciences.
  • Must be able to work entire summer camp season: June 14th-Aug 20th
  • Hours: 8:30-4:00

HEAD COUNSELORS 
Description: Having a great spirited head counselor is one of the most important aspects of summer camp. Camp Live Oak is looking for enthusiastic certified teachers or other individuals 21 and older with experience in the area of child care. He/she will work with children ages 5-13 and supervise two to three Jr. Counselors over the summer session. Head Counselors will be responsible for planning and organizing free time and rainy day activities, supervising their unit during various scheduled camp activities and field trips, dealing with camper discipline, and promoting camp spirit and cohesiveness. They will also be responsible for maintaining daily accurate attendance sheets and submitting their group�s weekly activities and happenings to the camp newsletter, The Mosquito. A limited budget will be provided for special projects or activities. Pay Rate: Varies depending on experience

  • Must be a certified teacher or have extensive experience in the area of child care and classroom management.
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must be able to work the entire summer camp season: June 14th-Aug 20th
  • Hours: 8:30-4:00 M-F

JUNIOR COUNSELORS 
Description:  Along with the Head Counselor, enthusiastic Jr. Counselors are a must to any great summer camp experience. Responsible for assisting the Head Counselor in daily camp activities, the Jr. Counselor will also be responsible for assisting in group supervision, camper discipline, as well as promoting camp spirit and cohesiveness. College students majoring in education or outdoor recreation are excellent candidates for this position. Pay Rate: MINIMUM WAGE

  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Previous child care experience a plus++
  • Must be able to work the entire summer camp season: June 8th-Aug 14th
  • Hours: 8:30-4:00 M-F

LEADERS IN TRAINING (L.I.T) 
Description: Our leader in training (L.I.T.) program is for young adults ages 14 and 15 years old. In this volunteer based program, L.I.T.'s will be placed alongside an adult Head Counselor and will assist in daily camp activities and group supervision. The main job responsibility of the L.I.T. is to provide a fun, safe, and energetic environment to the group and help promote camp spirit and cohesiveness. All L.I.T.'s will be given community service hours for their time at camp.

Since Camp Live Oak is an environmental day camp that promotes respect for the environment and all that live in it, L.I.T.'s will be responsible for promoting the Leave No Trace principles to campers. All L.I.T.'s are required to fill out a staff application and go through an interview process. Please use the Staff application located on the Employment page and clearly state on the top right hand corner of the application L.I.T. APPLICANT before submitting.

There is a $125.00 registration fee, which includes staff t-shirts, field trips, and LIT Celebration Trip at the end of the summer.
