Camp Director

The Camp Director is a seasonal summer position that oversees the day-to-day operations of Camp Live Oak, provides leadership to all camp staff, and is the camp liaison between Camp Live Oak campers and parents. The Camp Director is a leadership position with many responsibilities relating to the safety of children and adults. The ideal candidate is organized, creative and energetic with a passion for the environment, outdoor activities, and children’s development.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  • Certified Teacher working with children ages 5 – 16 or previous Camp Director experience.  Minimum of 3 years working in a supervisory position managing personnel and budgets.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Experience in an outdoor camp setting is a plus
  • Completion or education toward a degree in the recreation or education field is a plus
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

Executive Office Administrator

The Executive Office Manager will support the daily operations at the Executive Office of Camp Live Oak, an educational summer camp located in Broward.  The Executive Office is in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. This is a seasonal position that will end in August.

Qualifications

  • Must have a strong command of the English language.  Spanish speaker (including reading and writing) is a plus! .
  • It is essential that the Administrative Assistant can multitask and prioritize important tasks.  Summer camp is a fun, but busy business!
  • A thorough proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Quickbooks, and Outlook as well as general internet knowledge is REQUIRED. Experience with Publisher, PowerPoint and/or management software is a plus. Since we use a computer database to manage our files, the Administrative Assistant needs to have excellent overall computer skills. Familiarity with sites such as Constant Contact, Facebook, Instagram, etc. is a plus.
  • The Administrative Assistant must have a professional and enthusiastic demeanor as he/she will be communicating regularly with our camp families. We are a fun and passionate office and are looking for an additional enthusiastic team member!
  • The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and well-organized as many of the tasks have numerous details. Excellent communication skills (writing, editing, etc.) are required.
  • Enthusiasm for the environment is a plus, as is a background in camp programs or education.
  • Must have at least three years of experience working as an Administrative Assistant

Fishing Coordinator

Seeking employees for Summer 2023 now!

We are looking for knowledgeable fishermen and women who value educating young kids in the in’s and out’s of fishing at one of South Florida’s beautiful State Parks! Located at Birch State Park in Ft. Lauderdale, applicants must be experienced in both salt and fresh water, as well as drift boat, pier, and shore fishing. We are looking for enthusiastic, patient, and hard-working team players. Applicants must be flexible and willing to help in a variety of areas and a willingness to learn! Self-motivated individuals with excellent communication skills are a MUST! Applicants will be working outside, rain or shine, so a positive attitude and a love of the outdoors is expected. Applicants will need to develop a curriculum, purchase supplies, coordinate field trips, and transportation, and maintain an accurate budget.

General Program Overview:

– fishing trips twice a week for the beach, pier, flat water, and charter boat excursions, knot tying, casting accuracy, fishing techniques, history of fishing, local Florida laws/licensing/etc, ocean/environmental conservation, ocean/boating/water safety, dissection/marine life anatomy lessons, fresh vs. saltwater fishing,

Applicants must be:

• Enthusiastic about the outdoors and promoting respect for the environment

• Minimum age of 21, Certified Teacher, or have extensive experience working with children ages 5-13 and know how to fish.

• Must be able to work beginning June 12 – July 28, with the possibility of an extended contract until August 16th. Hours are from 8 am-4 pm.

• Camp experience is a plus!

Teen Eco Coordinator – Birch State Park

The Lead Program Instructor (PI) is responsible for leading outdoor education, leadership development, team building, and adventure recreation activities. Additionally, PIs are responsible for leading extensive group activities. Must be available full-time for the entire summer, June 12 – August 16, 2023. The camp is held at Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, Fort Lauderdale.

Full Time, Seasonal with a possibility of an extended contract.  Monday – Friday from 8:30 to 4:00.  Curriculum planning is required and paid planning time.

The ideal candidate is a certified Teacher or guidance counselor experienced working with children ages 14 –  16 or previous Camp Director experience.

Lifeguards Birch State Park

Must hold a Lifeguard Certification from a nationally recognized organization. Must be at least 18 years old. This is a part time, seasonal position for the Spring camp session March 20- 24 or Summer camp June 12 – August 16.  Possibility for additional hours may be available.

Head Lifeguard will be in charge of setting up the waterfront areas (Beach at Fort Lauderdale) and maintaining order throughout camp swim times. They will need to assess the swimming abilities of all campers ages 5 – 16 and be responsible for the equipment used during this time, such as surfboards, paddle boards, and more. All applicants are required to demonstrate lifesaving skills before employment and References are required.

The expected schedule is 8:30 – 4:00 pm. Lifeguards will also be asked to assist Canoe, Archery, and Fishing instructor in the daily setup of the camp.

Head Counselor for Ft. Lauderdale

We are looking for Certified Teachers, Substitutes, Outdoor Educators, or former Camp people with the energy and excitement to participate and guide children through canoeing, fishing, archery, science, and arts and crafts activities at the beautiful Birch State Park in Ft. Lauderdale. Applicants will be working outside, rain or shine, so a positive attitude and a love of the outdoors is a MUST.

We are looking for nature enthusiasts, hard-working, team players that love teaching children about the world around them. Applicants MUST be flexible and willing to help in a variety of areas and a willingness to learn! Self-motivated individuals with excellent communication skills is a MUST!  The counselor position is full time, seasonal; and a full spring or summer season contract is preferred.

Canoe/Archery/Fishing Instructor

We are looking for experienced and energetic individuals in the area of canoeing, kayaking, archery, and fishing to work with children ages 5 to 13 years old. The C/A/F specialist is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising these activities while encouraging participation, team building, and leadership. He/she will also implement safety procedures in all activity areas and ensure that all campers are informed as to how to participate in each activity.  The C/A/F specialist will have a budget to acquire equipment. Additional job duties include but are not limited to the following: inventory and maintenance of all equipment and ensuring its proper use and storage. He/she will also assist the on-site Director with special camp activities and plan meaningful activities for rainy days. Lifeguard certification a PLUS!

This is a physical job and the applicant MUST be able to lift/carry at least 50 lbs.  Applicant must also be comfortable working outdoors for an extended amount of time, rain or shine! Since Camp Live Oak is an environmental day camp that promotes respect for the environment and all that live in it, the C/A/F specialist will also be responsible for promoting the Leave No Trace principles in these activities.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to work entire spring (March 20 -24) or summer camp season: June 12th- Aug 16th
  • Must attend all Staff Training (multiple dates in May)
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must have canoeing, archery, and fishing experience as well as know how to implement such programs.
  • Previous childcare experience or teaching experience is recommended.
  • Additional outdoor camping experience a plus++
  • Must be a self-starter and team player!
  • Hours: 8:30-4:00 M-F
  • References required
