Summer Camp Activities

Soccer, flag tag, and kickball are among the fun and popular sports at Camp Live Oak. Field sports and games get kids excited, and while non-competitively enjoyed, kids learn cooperation and teamwork without being focused on the win, but on the fun!

Mountain biking is also an adrenaline pumping activity that allows kids to experience a variety of trails and terrains, while learning all the ins and outs of biking from Camp Live Oaks trained instructors. Kids gain confidence and knowledge, as they learn to check tire pressure, change a flat, maintaining chains and other gear. Once prepped, campers are equipped with mountain bikes, helmets, and protective gear, as they navigate trails working their way from beginner to expert level. Trail riding is available for campers age 10 and up as a part of the summer camp schedule.

Hiking is another camper favorite which allows campers to explore South Florida’s unique collection of grasses, trees, birds, and other wildlife. Camp Live Oak campers gain access to the forests of Birch State Park where numerous hiking trails bring out their sense of adventure while allowing them to unplug from normal daily life. Trails take campers to and from, amid shaded paths and sunny spots, through moss-laden trees and gumbo limbos. Park Rangers deliver guided tours which teach campers about native species used by Native Americans for healing as well as invasive species. Geocaching is also a fun part of these hikes. Campers are also taught to make minimal impacts to the environment through the Leave No Trace guidelines which help the park’s natural ecosystems remain intact for the future.

Campers also enjoy the opportunity to learn and practice archery at Camp Live Oak. Campers are taught by archery instructors (Level I Instructional Archery) who teach campers proper form and safety procedures before the archery practice begins. Archery not only improves campers’ hand and eye coordination but also helps them develop focus, discipline, and patience.

Science Activities are a big part of the fun at Camp Live Oak. From building worm compost, dissecting squids, helping with archaeological digs, and other hands-on activities, the science program at Camp Live Oak is taught by exceptional science instructors who help kids better understand nature, space, marine life, and more.

Arts and Crafts, like Science is also part of the core of summer camp activities. Artistic teachers and local artists help campers gain confidence to try new techniques and materials to create their own masterpieces – paintings, sculpture, natural art, tie dye, and more.

This has been the first camp ever that my son didn’t complain about going in the morning, but he did tell me about the friends he made and the things he did. We love this camp!
