    Daily Activities

Each day at Winter Camp is packed with exciting activities, from hands-on science experiments to outdoor adventures like canoeing, hiking, and fishing. Fun and discovery await!

    Week 1: December 21–24, 2026

    The Science Behind Candy Canes

Campers kick off winter camp with a day of sweet experiments, festive outdoor fun, and canoeing adventures. Through hands-on science, creative activities, and water-based challenges, campers will discover the surprising science behind candy, color, dissolving, and motion while exploring the park by canoe. Along the way, they’ll explore how temperature affects dissolving and how water movement, wildlife, and seasonal changes shape Florida’s aquatic ecosystems.

Penguins (5-7): Set out on a festive canoeing adventure as campers learn basic paddling skills and explore the park lake with their counselors. Campers will search for wildlife along the water and participate in simple candy cane science experiments focused on color, dissolving, and temperature. They’ll also explore how different materials behave in water before creating candy cane watercolor paintings inspired by the colors and patterns of the season.

Falcons (8-10): Take on a winter water explorer challenge as campers build their canoeing skills while searching for wildlife and learning about the science of the lake ecosystem. Campers will conduct hands-on candy cane experiments, making predictions and observations about dissolving rates and temperature while comparing how different conditions affect the results. They’ll also test how water movement affects their canoe before finishing with candy cane watercolor paintings, experimenting with watercolor techniques to create colorful seasonal designs.

Bears (11-13): Become winter expedition leaders as campers navigate the park lake, develop advanced canoeing and teamwork skills, and examine the plants and animals found around the water. Campers will conduct candy cane science experiments while exploring dissolving rates, temperature, variables, and experimental design. They’ll also test water movement and paddle efficiency before finishing with detailed candy cane watercolor paintings using artistic techniques to create unique winter-inspired designs.

    Week 2: December 28–31, 2026

    Holiday Lights & Nature Nights

Campers spend the day exploring the magic and science of light while canoeing through Florida's waterways. From glowing animals and bioluminescence to colorful holiday lights, campers will explore reflection, refraction, color, shadows, and how organisms use light to survive in their environments. They’ll also discover how people around the world use light during seasonal celebrations.

Penguins (5-7): Become light explorers as campers paddle around the lake, search for wildlife, and discover colors, shadows, and reflections. Campers will participate in simple light experiments and learn about animals that glow in nature. They’ll explore how light changes what we see before creating glow-inspired animal silhouettes using bright colors and imaginative designs to show how animals might look glowing at night.

Falcons (8-10): Become junior light scientists as campers practice canoeing while observing how sunlight interacts with the water and surrounding environment. Campers will explore reflection, shadows, color, and bioluminescence through hands-on experiments and discover why some organisms produce their own light. They’ll put their discoveries to the test during light-based challenges before creating glow-inspired animal silhouettes featuring an animal they might encounter at night.

Bears (11-13): Become aquatic light researchers as campers navigate the lake while studying reflection, refraction, shadows, and natural sources of light. Campers will explore bioluminescence and consider how light influences aquatic organisms, camouflage, communication, and survival. They’ll conduct experiments and complete advanced observation challenges before creating detailed glow-inspired animal silhouettes based on real or imagined nocturnal and bioluminescent animals.
