Summer is a time for kids to explore, grow, and create unforgettable memories outdoors. At Camp Live Oak’s Summer Camp, children experience far more than just a traditional day camp, they become immersed in nature, hands-on learning, outdoor adventure, and meaningful friendships in the beautiful setting of Hugh Taylor Birch State Park.
Designed for children ages 5–13, with additional toddler and teen programs available, Camp Live Oak’s Summer Camp gives campers the opportunity to stay active, curious, and connected to the natural world all summer long. From canoeing and science exploration to wildlife encounters, creative activities and field trips, every day brings something new to discover.
Exploring the Natural Beauty of Hugh Taylor Birch State Park
One of the most unique parts of Camp Live Oak’s Summer Camp is its location inside Hugh Taylor Birch State Park. Nestled between the Intracoastal Waterway and the beach in Fort Lauderdale, the park provides an incredible outdoor classroom filled with trails, lagoons, native wildlife, and coastal ecosystems.
Campers spend their days surrounded by nature, where learning happens through direct experience. They may spot birds along the water, observe insects and reptiles on the trails, or discover marine life during outdoor activities. This daily connection to the outdoors helps children build curiosity, environmental awareness, and a deeper appreciation for Florida’s ecosystems.
Outdoor Adventures Every Day
Summer Camp at Camp Live Oak keeps children active and engaged with a wide variety of outdoor activities. Campers participate in adventures like canoeing, archery, fishing, swimming, and beach games, all designed to build confidence, teamwork, and independence.
Trying new activities helps children step outside their comfort zones in a supportive environment. Whether they are paddling through the water for the first time or learning to hit a target in archery, campers develop valuable skills while having fun outdoors.
The camp’s balance of recreation and education ensures that every day feels exciting, energetic, and rewarding.
Hands-On Science and Nature Learning
Learning is naturally woven into the Summer Camp experience. Camp Live Oak incorporates hands-on science activities and nature-based lessons that encourage campers to ask questions, explore their surroundings, and think critically.
Campers may investigate local ecosystems, learn about wildlife adaptations, study marine life, or participate in creative STEM-based projects. Because these lessons take place outdoors and involve active participation, children often retain the information more effectively and develop a stronger connection to what they are learning.
This approach transforms science from something abstract into something campers can see, touch, and experience firsthand.
Building Friendships and Confidence
Camp is also a place where children build lasting friendships and grow socially. Spending time together outdoors encourages teamwork, communication, and cooperation. Campers support one another during activities, solve challenges together, and share memorable experiences throughout the summer.
The welcoming environment at Camp Live Oak helps children feel comfortable trying new things and expressing themselves. Over time, many campers become more independent, confident, and willing to take positive risks.
These social and emotional benefits often become just as meaningful as the activities themselves.
A Summer Full of Discovery
Each week of camp brings new themes, activities, and opportunities for exploration. The variety keeps campers engaged and excited to return each day. From wildlife encounters and outdoor games to creative projects and science exploration, Summer Camp offers an experience that blends fun with meaningful learning.
Because no two days are exactly the same, campers are constantly discovering something new about nature, about their peers, and about themselves.
