Whether your family getaway includes a trip to a popular theme park, a camping adventure, or a visit to with grandparents, family, or friends, a little prep and planning can go a long way in making your getaway more enjoyable. For example, if a theme park is on your agenda, research rides and activities which will appropriate and enjoyable for your family. when visiting family or friends, look for family friendly events in the area. And no matter where your getaway takes you, be sure to pack delicious, healthy snacks for the road, along with books and travel games to make the journey more enjoyable.

A Fun, Relaxing Staycation

Often families overlook the sights and sounds of events and activities where they live, and what better time than spring to discover parks, museums, historic sites, and other possibilities in your community. Your staycation may include a family mini-golf tournament, trying new foods at local restaurants, taking an eco-tour, flying kites at the beach, or playing games in the park. Daytrips can even be a part of your staycation. Consider a trip to the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival for gardening inspiration and short lines at the attractions or a  visit to the Florida Strawberry Festival in Plant City for a classic state fair feel. The possibilities are endless!

Plant a Family Garden

Kids love spending time with their parents and siblings,  and playing in the dirt could make it even better. Spring is the time to plan and plant a garden together. Kids will enjoy helping choose the plants to include as well as getting into the dirt and planting. Whether you choose a garden in the yard or planters on the deck, a vegetable garden or a flower garden, or both, your kids will have a sense of pride in their work and experience the joy of the harvest. Think of all the fun you’ll have together planning, planting and harvesting flowers, fruits, or vegetables you grew together!

Plan a Family Picnic

Whether you are at home or visiting family and friends, a picnic is great fun. Let the whole family plan the event from what to eat and drink as well as what games to enjoy following the picnic. Let the kids choose the picnic spot – a local park, the beach, the lake, or down by the river. Prepare your meal together, packing your picnic basket with your favorite picnic foods and your cooler with plenty of beverages. After you eat, take along a ball for a game of kickball or dodgeball, kites for flying, or simply enjoy a classic game like “Tag” or “Red Light, Green Light.”

No matter what you choose, bring along your camera to record the moments and cherish the time you spent together making memories to last a lifetime.

This has been the first camp ever that my son didn’t complain about going in the morning, but he did tell me about the friends he made and the things he did. We love this camp!
